"Snapdragon, Mediatek, Exynos" Which is Good and Which is not ? | Detailed Comparison |

Updated: Jan 6, 2022

Whenever we go to the market to buy a new phone 1st question that arrives in our mind is which Brand processor is the phone running. Currently, there are 5 Big fishes producing chips Snapdragon, Mediatek, Exynos, Huawei's Kirin, and Apple's own custom chip. But today we are going to talk about top guns in Indian Android Market.

There are many benchmarks on which these Brands can be compared. But we will Focus on some key areas which are most important and commonly faced by a Smartphone user.

COST

Processor shares a good percentage of the total cost of a Smartphone. So it plays a huge role in deciding the cost of the phone. Snapdragon and Mediatek are Chip centric companies that only produce chips for electronics but Exynos chip is produced and used by Samsung only which definitely helps Samsung saves much more penny than any other brand using snapdragon or MediaTek chip. Apart from Exynos, Mediatek is cheaper than snapdragon as MediaTek started as chips for low, Mid-range phones and snapdragon for premium High-end phones. Unlike Intel and AMD the cost of the processors is never revealed to World except for the manufacturers so one cannot buy a processor for his own use.

So in case Cost Efficiency MediaTek > Exynos > Snapdragon

Process and RnD

The most powerful processors of all the 3 brands are based on 7nm fabrication process which is really good but it can be seen that SnapDragon was 1st to achieve it after that Exynos and then Mediatek which clearly shows the RnD capabilities of 3 of them.

Also when it comes to the up-gradation of features SD is 1st to implement them. Example bringing 5G modem (inbuilt) or support for higher MegaPixel support for cameras etc.

HEATING ISSUE's

Again Snapdragon and Exynos perform Much better than Mediatek. Devices running on MediaTek chipsets generally face Heating issues which definitely reduces overall smartphone life also harms Battery in the Long Run. Though Most MediaTek chipsets are overclocked nowadays just to give higher benchmarks results.

GPU

Like Samsung produces its own CPUs, Snapdragon Produces its own GPUs called Adreno. Exynos and MediaTek use ARM manufactured Mali GPU series. Though over here not much difference can be noticed. So it totally depends upon on offer made by them in different price segments.

General Difference

Exynos and Mediatek both use 4 HIgh-speed cores and 4 low-speed cores in the CPU.

But SnapDragon uses 2 High speed and 6 Low-speed cores which is the best combination for optimum usage. The most important catch over here is that Exynos and MediaTek give higher frequency cores but if notice they are older generation cores whereas Snapdragon Gives less but the latest cores which are more optimized to perform better than 4 older and higher frequency cores. This way Samsung and MediaTek do cost-cutting and sometimes perform better in benchmarks results of Geekbench and antutu scoring.

CONCLUSION

SnapDragon seems to have an edge over the other two brands as it provides the latest, more powerful core and a strong GPU for optimum performance and MediaTek also seems to be bucking up since its launch of the helio G series. Recently it has Launched powerful gaming series chipsets at a quite affordable price which in turn raised the market share of Mediatek globally. On the other hand, Samsung's Exynos does not look competitive at all but still because of better integration of software with hardware, it has been able to sustain but still, It could have provided better.
